Traditional way of crossing the river.</div>
<br />
Tourists returning from the Kuruvadweep Island. Dweep in Sanskrit means island. Kuruva island is around 1000 acre evergreen forest. You need to cross the river Kabani to enter into the forest. Seen in the picture are tourists returning from the island on traditional raft made of bamboo. They have placed some ropes to help raftman to guide the raft. Watching the raftmen (people in the dark green dress) rowing the raft is a fun in itself.<br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">If you are driving in a street, watch out. Any pedestrian may cross the road overlooking your vehicle. People, in Kochi, while walking on the roads and even highways, expect car drivers to be careful. They expect that if they jump on the road, car will automatically stop in time. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Once, an old man put his hand on my moving car's bonnet, try to walk in front. It was a traffic jam situation and the guy was crossing the road. The speed of my car was around 10 kmph. I was lucky to notice the guy in time and apply the breaks as hard as I can. The guy behind me also did the same. Thanks to him. But he was not lucky enough. His car got hit on the rear by the vehicle behind him. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Never trust your vehicle's turn indicator. </span><br>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">It's not because it is not working but because other drivers Kochi tends to ignore it. </span><br>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">While taking a left turn to park my vehicle in our office parking area, I properly used left indicator. This is strictly no overtake zone. The biker behind me simply ignored the indicator and overtook from left side. </span><br>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">The good thing is that I know the habits of people here so I was careful. A narrow escape. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Watch your back. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">If you are driving on kochi roads and you see a vehicle coming fast behind you, slow down you vehicle. The guy may overtake from right, take a sharp left cut in front of you and apply breaks just at the face of your car. This is very common with bikers. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Don't expect that a driver in Kochi will turn the indicator on while taking a turn. People here do not use indicators. Last weekend we organised trip to Bassilious Boys orphanage at kochi. The purpose of trip was to mingle with the kids and provide moral and financial support to them. We gifted lots of items to the orphanage including clothes, lunch boxes and a computer. We sponsored lunch and all my team members had lunch with the kids. This followed by sports activities like football and basket ball games. <br />
<br />
The kids were very happy. We also planned coaching classes for computer and English. <br />

This is the scene at the entrance of world famous Mahakal Temple of Ujjain. Out of pity, I bought all the artifacts in his hand (it was really very cheap) and ask the kid (in red) to go and enjoy his day.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-EebNrKomMBU/TkJDyC9nnRI/AAAAAAAACjc/3jlZdeqV3Xg/s1600-h/DSC00460%25255B10%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DSC00460" border="0" alt="DSC00460" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ExKySy2-tug/TkJDzlM-ZMI/AAAAAAAACjg/UGjK2pGPjEo/DSC00460_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="277" height="331" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3OpNflFQB6g/TkJD2MORstI/AAAAAAAACjk/h7uUQ0oGeg0/s1600-h/DSC00434%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DSC00434" border="0" alt="DSC00434" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-mcd7te8kN1g/TkJD5GHWOuI/AAAAAAAACjo/1QkWUYV79uw/DSC00434_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="277" height="331" /></a></p> Yanesh Tyagihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03393515815072208304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23680367.post-3862886834400893212011-08-10T11:59:00.001+05:302011-08-10T12:01:13.552+05:30Shatrughna Temple, Rishikesh<div class="wlWriterHeaderFooter" style="float:none; margin:0px; padding:4px 0px 4px 0px;"><iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/widgets/like.php?href=http://yaneshtyagi.blogspot.com/2011/08/shatrughna-temple-rishikesh.html" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; width:450px; height:80px"></iframe></div><p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-HfaXodd3Oik/TkIlK5FE6eI/AAAAAAAACjM/bPKffu36ZSQ/s1600-h/Shatrughna%252520Temple%25252C%252520Rishikesh%25255B16%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Shatrughna Temple, Rishikesh" border="0" alt="Shatrughna Temple, Rishikesh" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Lsl36ylTfaw/TkIlMy4vE6I/AAAAAAAACjQ/PRWlnSnMzDU/Shatrughna%252520Temple%25252C%252520Rishikesh_thumb%25255B13%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="558" height="431" /></a></p> <p>Shatrughna Temple is one on two temples in the world that are dedicated to the youngest brother of Lord Rama – <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shatrughna">Shartughna</a>. The bridge is built on the sacred river <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganges_River">Ganges</a> which flows through Rishikesh. It is here that the river leaves the Shivalik mountains in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himalayas">Himalayas</a> and flows out into the plains of northern India. </p> <p>At the height of 372 meter above sea level, the bridge is located at 30.103368°N 78.294754°E. The bridge connects <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muni_Ki_Reti">Muni Ki Reti</a> to Geeta Bhawan. Traditionally, the sandy (reti) banks of Ganges River here have been used by <em>munis</em> (sages) and sadhus for <em>tapasya</em>, giving the place  name Muni ki Reti, which literally means "<em>sands of the sages</em>"</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sqI5p9zozBs/TkIdu--o3yI/AAAAAAAACic/qz08Qlo9PLM/s1600-h/DSC00262%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none;
